Micro-TMS increases heat pain threshold

Micro-TMSOn April 19, 2013 we published an article in PLoS One describing how weak pulsed electromagnetic fields can increase heat pain threshold in healthy volunteers. The study employed a double-blind, sham-controlled, crossover design. The flexible configuration with small coils on a head cap improves clinical applicability. The press release that came out on April 22, generated a lot of interest. Ruud Kortekaas (the main investigator and first author of the study) appeared in an item for the University News website Unifocus, the television show RTL Editie NL and for local television show Oog TV. More information on studies involving micro-TMS can be found on the website magnetisme.nu (Dutch).
