IEEE Spark: inspiring high school students

As a senior member of IEEE I was happy to see that they just launched a new website – IEEE Spark – aimed at 14-18 year olds who want to learn more about careers in engineering, technology and computing. It features articles on technological innovation, university preparation tips, professional career profiles, at-home activities, cartoons, and more and that in a fun and attractive way. The first two issues were on crime scene investigation and green technology. As a volunteer for Spiegelbeeld, a Dutch initiative from VHTO, I really appreciate this effort to show how interesting a career in this field can be. It always amazes me what a bad image technical jobs have with girls in particular and a site like Spark can definitely help inspire both girls and boys to opt for a career in science and technology.
